For those folks like myself who really do not have the room (or desire) to mount a permanent gaming table somewhere, I present to y’all the idea of a Z-Folding tabletop, that can stash away neatly and be brought out when the mood to game sets in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

First, acquire some boards. I’m old school (duh) so I still want a proper 4’x6′ table to game on. I went to my local DiY store (such as Home Depot or Lowes in the US and B&Q or Homebase in the UK) to purchase my pieces parts. I opted for some 2’x4′ 1\/2″ plywood of a decent quality. I do not want to have to deal with warping and I like a smooth sanded surface to place other things on top of. Plywood will also resist bending when it is on the table, or in storage. You may choose to go with a hardboard such as MDF, but I find this is very subject to moisture and warps\/bends easily. YMMV, work with what you are comfortable with and can afford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What you’ll need:
– Three 2’x4′ 1\/2″ boards, preferably of a good quality plywood.
– A roll of good-quality adhesive tape.
– A pair of scissors or other cutting instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Place the boards on your table, or the floor:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, run a line of tape along one of the seams between two boards. I purchased a roll of 3M “Extreme Hold” tape for this purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, flip those two boards over, and fold them back-to-back. Use two pieces of tape to cover over the edges of the boards, making a hinge. You can place a third piece of tape over them for extra strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, flip the boards over and unfold the board to test the tape hinge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now repeat the process for the next board. Place a line of tape down, fold the third board over the second, and make the hinge for these two boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now you can Z-fold the boards together for easy storage in a closet or under a bed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
